Post Band Camp Week

Hello everyone,

Band Camp went VERY WELL, and I am excited about this year's season! Below is some information to help guide you through the next week before school starts on Monday, Aug. 10th.

Evening Practices

5:15-8:30PM

We are ON THE FIELD stretching/conditioning at 5:15 PM. (Guard and Pit maybe elsewhere, check with your section leader ahead of time) I will always make it a priority to finish practice at 8:30PM. (If we are on the field at that time, it does take time to take our equipment in!) Please make arrangements to have your son/daughter picked up right after practice.

Music Memory Checks

All Woodwind/Brass/Percussion students must memorize the Show Music, Fight Song, Alma Mater, and National Anthem.

Music Memory Checks for Part One (Space...) will begin on Tuesday, Aug. 4th.

Music Memory Checks for Part Two (Control...) will begin on Monday, Aug. 17th.

Music Memory Checks for Part Three (Gas...) will begin on Monday, Aug. 31st

Music Memory Checks for Part Four (Time...) will begin on Monday, September 14th.

Dot Books

All Woodwind/Brass/Battery students will need to have the following (this will be graded weekly as part of the class) For those of you new to Marching Band, consider this your TEXTBOOK- that you will use at every practice to help learn, retain, and improve your marching performance. Outside of your instrument and it's related equipment, this is the most important part of learning and being a great performer!

YOU MUST HAVE THESE NO LATER THAN THURSDAY, AUG. 6TH.

1.) One 8 1/2" X 5 1/2" memo-size 3-ring Binder. STAPLES online price below (Free Shipping to the store??). Either one will be acceptable- but having the white one is better because you can have self-identifying inserts, so that if lost, it will be easier to be return it.

2.) Minimum of EIGHTY to ONE HUNDRED    8 1/2" X 5 1/2" Protector Sheets (each single sheet will be used for a drill set, and others will cover marching basics exercises).

3.) A heavy-duty string (or shoelace) will be used to carry the binder on the performer's shoulder.

4.) ALWAYS have a pencil that can be securely in place to mark down new drill sets, or make adjustments to old ones. Pens or markers will not be acceptable.

5.) A 3-ring zipper pocket or re-sealable sheet that can securely hold your three Dot Chips (pink-blue-yellow, given out at Camp)

August 15th 9-9 Practice + Kick-OFF Dinner

Our first 9-9 Practice is at the end of the first week. We will be focusing on Part Two (Control...) and detailing Part One.

The morning block (9AM - NOON) focus is on fundamentals of playing/marching and possibly drill.

LUNCH (on your own): NOON to 1PM

The afternoon block (1PM - 4:30PM) focus is on ensemble music

KICK OFF DINNER!!! ALL Parents and Students

The evening block (6PM - 9PM) focus is on drill and then our PARENT MARCHING EXHIBITION for the last part of evening rehearsal!!!

Upcoming Events: Band Room Cleaning Project, June 15-17

Hello Tiger Pride!

Week of June 15th-17th: Band Cleaning Project

WHO: everyone who is in town and NOT working at those times…
All Wind/Percussion Student Leaders will be assigned lead duties to oversee during these times. ***You may bring CDs/Ipods. We have sound systems in both rooms and will play music (appropriate lyrics of course!). Leaders will pick what music is boomin’ while we work!

Everyone else (including any parents who wish to help out!) will be given assignments to
complete.

I do need Colorguard Leaders, but regular guard members are excused on Mon/Tues because of their evening rehearsals.

TIMES:
Monday June 15, 1:00 - 4:30 PM (Guard leaders excused @ 2:45 PM)
Tuesday June 16, 1:00 - 4:30 PM (Guard leaders excused @ 4PM)
Wednesday June 17, 1:00 - 4:30 PM (if needed)

OBJECTIVES:
Cleaning: old band room/lockers, new band room areas, instruments + cases
Organizing: instruments need to be inventoried, so they can be checked out for this year.
This includes all percussion instruments, stands, cases, and other miscellaneous materials. This can only occur after the areas have been cleaned out.

MATERIALS:
Each person should bring rubber gloves, 3-5 rags (to clean with), a bottle of cleaning fluid  (i.e. Formula 409), a couple large trash bags. Don't wear your nice clothes or shoes, they’ll get dirty!
Thanks!
